fasting during pregnancy

Pregnant women who fast during Ramadan could be putting the health of their unborn baby at risk, according to a new study. Fasting during the month is one of the five pillars of Islam, although pregnant women are exempt if it poses a risk to their health. WHO IS EXEMPT FROM SAWM? Fasting is mandatory on every Muslim who is sane, adult, able and resident. The following exemptions apply: 1,the insane; 2,children who are not adolescent yet; 3,the elderly and chronically ill for whom fasting is unreasonably strenuous; Such persons are required to feed at least one poor person every day in Ramadan for which he or she has missed fasting. 4,pregnant women and nursing may postpone the fasting at a later time; 5,the ill and the travellers can also defer their fasting. Allah says in the Qur'an, Surah Al-Baqara: 'But if anyone is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period should be made up by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put you to difficulties.&#

Breast Milk And Newborn Babies

Mother’s milk is a matchless compound created by Allah to meet the baby’s nutritional needs and protect it against possible infections. The balance of the nutriments in mother’s milk is at ideal levels and the milk is in the ideal form for the baby’s immature body. At the same time, the mother’s milk is also very rich in nutrients which accelerate the growth of brain cells and the development of the nervous system. 1 Artificial baby foods prepared with present-day technology cannot replace this miraculous food. The list of advantages to the baby provided by mother’s milk is being added to every day. Research has shown that babies who are fed mother’s milk are particularly protected against infections concerning the respiratory and digestive systems. That is because the antibodies in mother’s milk provide a direct defence against infection. Other anti-infection properties of mother’s milk are that it provides a hospitable environment for “good” bacteria called “normal flora” thus consti

Abortion in Islam

Humans are the most favoured creation of the Creator, Allah (swt): "And indeed We have honoured the children of Adam, carried them on land and sea, gave them lawful, pure provisions, and greatly preferred them above many of those We have created." (Al-Isra,17:70)Among these signs of Allah’s favour on the children of Adam, is the sacred value Allah (swt) assigns to the life of a human being. When that value was violated with the first unlawful murder of a human being on earth, when one of Adam’s sons killed his own brother out of malice, Allah (swt) condemned that act and put it on record in the Quran as a reminder, to be recited until the Day of Judgement.Allah (swt) went even further, making unlawful killing of a single individual human being equal to mass murder of the whole of mankind: "Because of that, We ordained for the children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in retaliation for murder or for spreading mischief on earth, it would be as if he killed al

Aqeeqah & shaving the head

There are 2 things in Aqeeqah ceremony: the shaving of the hair from the head of a newborn baby, and the sacrifice of an animal (these were also characteristic features of Millat-u-Ibrahim, the religion of the Prophet Ibrahim). The hair on the child's head is shaven and its weight in silver is given as charity. An animal is then sacrificed as a mark of celebration and distributed amongst friends, family, the poor and a portion is kept for ones own consumption. Ali (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah slaughtered a goat on the occasion of Hasan's birth, the son of Fatimha (RA) and Ali (RA) and said "Oh Fatimah! Shave the head of Hasan and pay silver equal to the weight of the hair as charity". Sahih Sunan at-Tirmithee 2:1226 It is reported by Abdullah bin al-As that the Prophet said, "To whomsoever a child is born and he wants to perform a sacrifice of Aqeeqah on behalf of it, he should sacrifice two goats for a boy and one goat for a girl". Child should address with fathers name

Ibn Umar (RA) reported that after the Prophet (SAW) freed Zayd ibn Harithah and adopted him, people used to refer to him as Zayd ibn Muhammed until the verse the following verse was revealed, "Call them by (the names of) their father's, that is more just in the sight of Allah..." (Al-Ahzab 33:5) Once this principle became part of the divine law, the Prophet (SAW) was instructed to further emphasize it by a series of warnings. For example, on one occasion he said, "He who knowingly attributed his fatherhood to someone other than his real father will be excluded from paradise." (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood) Abu Dharr (RA) also related that he heard the Prophet (SAW) say, "He who deliberately lets himself be called the son of someone other than his father is guilty of disbelief (kufr)." (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawood)

Before Pregnancy

Diet Try to eat a balanced diet with foods from all four food groups. This ensures that you receive all the vitamins and minerals that are essential for a healthy pregnancy. Try to get a balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and fruit and vegetables. Two of the most important nutrients in pregnancy are folic acid and calcium. Vitamin supplements can be used to ensure that you get a sufficient level of both. Try to reduce your intake of caffeine and alcohol. Some research indicates that caffeine can delay conception or show links with infertility and it does seem to lower a woman’s chances of conceiving. Weight This is a hot topic in the news at present. Research has shown that underweight mothers tend to have low birth weight babies. Other studies have linked a overly high BMI (Body Mass Index) with a lower chance of conceiving. Exercise Try to indulge in some form of physical exercise every day for six to twelve months before conceiving. This can help to maintain an active lifestyl

Muslim Woman Keeps Her Father's Name

Influenced by the Greco-Roman culture in which women were considered to e the property of men, western society erased a woman's family name upon marriage and replaced it by that of her husband. In the Islamic naming system she retains her father's name as it indicates her true lineage. However, both of these degenerative Western trends have been widely adopted in Muslim lands along with other un-Islamic cultural trappings of European colonialism. New Muslims, unaware of the Islamic naming system, often adopt Arabic names in the chaotic European style.
